Donvale Primary offers a lot of opportunities for students to take part in leadership roles. We have School Captains, House Captains, Marimba and Choir Captains, Art Captains, Student Voice Leaders and Environmental Leaders.
All these roles come with a badge, but that’s not the main idea. It’s about how you act as a leader. To be awarded a Leader Role kids usually involve writing a speech to present to your class. School Captains speeches have to be presented to Years 4 to 6, as well as teachers and the Principal.
In 2026, we have introduced a new group of leaders. The Student Voice Leaders (SVL’s) run class meetings and gather every fortnight to hear student voice from each class and share ideas. The people in these roles change each semester. With these leaders, students can have a say in what we do as a school.
Leadership comes in many different ways. A badge can’t determine whether you are a leader or not. As long as you are a good role model and demonstrate our values, you are a leader.
Our school is an inclusive community and we are always happy to welcome parents and families to our annual Welcome Back Barbeque, Open Day, and Grandparent's Day. On these days, we perform dances, songs, and display our most prized work for our families to enjoy. The students participate in all sorts of fun activities and the parents love watching their children grow.
Donvale Primary School also does school tours for families that are interested in sending their children here. Everyday students walk in with a big smile on their faces, ready to learn and grow.
We are so lucky to have four amazing specialist subjects. At Donvale Primary School we get to do Mandarin, PE, Visual Arts and Performing Arts as well as STEM and Humanities with our Classroom Teachers.
Mandarin: We learn about Chinese culture and languages. Mr Kho, our teacher, makes us all engage, laugh and have fun. There are a lot of topics that we cover while we are at Donvale and there were no topics that were not interesting or fun!
PE: We have a lot of fun and we do a wide range of sports. Mr Rodger and Mrs Wilkinson work together to make a fantastic PE program. Amazingly Mr Rodger has over 4 years of AFL Footy experience, so you know you are going to have the best time!
Visual Arts: In the art room is Ms Maskell and she has a massive amount of experience as an art teacher. Ms Maskell has a huge passion for art and lets everyone's creativity grow. We love getting our hands dirty in the art room painting and creating!
Performing Arts: We have a new teacher this year, Ms Ranson. She lets everyone's voice get heard and she loves singing and adores her pet cats. We love learning cultural songs and playing instruments like the eukelele, keyboard, recorder and marimbas!
Every year we have either a Writer’s Festival or whole-school Production. These events are loads of fun for the whole school.
At the writer’s festival, every second year, each student gets to write their own piece on a topic chosen by the school. This helps students with writing skills and is an awesome day when all the work gets put up for everyone to see.
Production is so fun. Not just fun. Really, Really, Really...Fun! Every second year we work as a whole school, practicing dances, scenes and having fun with our friends. It boosts confidence and is a great way to bring the school together.
On top of these incredible events, there is ALWAYS something happening at 4 Elata St. Over the year we do Footy Day, Book Week, Run Club, Camps, Excursions, Open Day, Lunchtime Clubs, Donvale Democracy, Grandparents' Day, Harmony Day, Christmas Carols and lots of other amazing fun thing
