School Council plays an important role in supporting the ongoing success and direction of Donvale Primary School. It brings together parents, staff and community members who work collaboratively to help guide the school and strengthen our community.
At its core, School Council helps ensure that Donvale remains a safe, inclusive and high-quality learning environment for all students.
School Council works closely with the Principal to:
set the broad direction and vision of the school
develop and review school policies
support the implementation of the School Strategic Plan
oversee and monitor the school budget, including fundraising
support the maintenance and improvement of school facilities and grounds
promote and represent the school within the wider community
Decisions made by School Council help shape the experiences of students and families at Donvale Primary School.
School Council is made up of a mix of:
Parent members
Department of Education staff members
Community members
This balance ensures a range of perspectives are represented and that decisions are made in the best interests of the school community.
To support its work, School Council operates a number of sub-committees that focus on specific areas of school operation, such as:
Finance
Education and school policies
Buildings and grounds
These sub-committees allow members to contribute their skills and interests in meaningful ways.
Being a School Councillor is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. It provides parents and community members with an opportunity to:
have a voice in decisions that affect the school
contribute skills and experience to benefit students
gain a deeper understanding of how the school operates
work collaboratively with staff and other families
Councillors are elected for a two-year term, with half of the positions becoming vacant each year.
