At Donvale Primary School, Visual Arts provides students with joyful opportunities to express ideas, explore creativity and develop confidence. Our art space is a welcoming environment where children are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and feel proud of their work.
Students from Prep to Year 6 engage in a wide range of art experiences, including drawing, painting, printing, construction, modelling, collage, mixed media, and working with threads and textiles.
Visual Arts learning focuses on developing both creative skills and artistic understanding. Students learn to explore and use elements such as:
line, shape and colour
pattern and texture
form and composition
Through hands-on making, students develop fine motor skills, creativity and personal expression.
As students progress through the school, they also learn to look at, talk about and respond to artworks. Students explore the work of artists from different times, cultures and styles, building appreciation and understanding of art as a form of communication.
From the early years onwards, students are supported to use simple arts language to talk about their own work and the work of others. Older students develop confidence in reflecting on artistic choices and sharing thoughtful responses.
Visual Arts at Donvale Primary School encourages students to:
express ideas and emotions
explore different materials and techniques
respect and appreciate diverse perspectives
feel confident sharing and discussing their work
This supportive and creative environment helps students develop a lifelong appreciation of the arts.
