At Donvale Primary School, digital technologies are used to enhance learning, creativity and collaboration, while supporting students to become confident, responsible and capable users of technology.
Digital learning is thoughtfully integrated across the curriculum to support understanding, inquiry and communication — not as an add-on, but as a purposeful tool for learning.
Technology at Donvale Primary School is used to support and enrich classroom learning across a range of subjects.
Students use digital tools to:
research and explore ideas
create and share learning in different formats
collaborate with others
develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Teachers carefully guide students in how and when to use technology, ensuring it supports learning goals and builds independence over time.
To support digital learning:
Students in Years 3–6 participate in a 1:1 iPad program, providing each student with regular access to a personal device for learning
Students in Prep–Year 2 have access to shared classroom iPads, supporting early experiences with technology in a developmentally appropriate way
This approach allows students to gradually build digital skills and confidence as they progress through the school.
Through explicit teaching and guided practice, students develop key digital skills such as:
safe and effective online research
typing and digital communication
creating multimedia presentations
using digital tools to organise, share and reflect on learning
These skills are embedded within classroom programs and aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0.
At Donvale Primary School, student safety and wellbeing are central to our digital learning program.
Cyber safety and digital citizenship are explicitly taught across all year levels. Students learn to:
use technology responsibly and respectfully
understand online etiquette and privacy
recognise and respond to unsafe or inappropriate online behaviour
By teaching these skills early and revisiting them regularly, we support students to navigate the digital world safely and confidently.
Digital technologies provide students with opportunities to:
express ideas creatively
work collaboratively on shared projects
explore new ways of presenting learning
Whether students are using digital tools to explore scientific concepts, create multimedia projects or collaborate with peers, technology supports engagement, creativity and deeper learning.
Families are encouraged to speak with their child’s teacher or level coordinator if they have questions about digital learning or online safety.
We value strong partnerships between home and school in supporting students to use technology in positive, safe and purposeful ways.
