Starting school is a very special milestone, and at Donvale Primary School we are committed to making this transition a positive, calm and exciting experience for both children and families.
Our Prep Transition Program is designed to help children feel confident, comfortable and ready for their first year of school by gradually introducing them to school life, routines and relationships.
During transition sessions, children will:
spend time in the school environment
meet their Prep teachers and classmates
be introduced to their Grade 6 buddy, who will help support them as they begin school
participate in fun, age-appropriate activities
build familiarity and confidence in the school setting
These sessions allow children to feel safe, supported and excited about starting school.
The Prep Transition Program includes the following sessions:
Session One:Friday 30 October | 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Session Two:Thursday 5 November | 9:30am – 10:30am
Session Three:Friday 13 November | 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Information Night for 2027 Prep Parents:Thursday 26 November | 6:00pm
Session Four – Meet the Teacher:Friday 27 November | 9:30am – 10:30am
During the Meet the Teacher session, students will officially meet their classroom teacher and classmates in their classroom for the following year. Children will take part in a fun activity and continue to build familiarity with school routines and spaces.
This session provides a wonderful opportunity for students and teachers to begin forming connections ahead of the school year.
For each transition session, students will need to bring:
a small snack
a drink bottle
We look forward to meeting you and your child and supporting them as they take this exciting step into school life.
