Level 4 -
Poetry Workshop |
|
Level 4 had a focus on poetry writing
for this term which culminated in a book for the library
with examples from all children. Some pieces were topic
related while others were personal choice. There are
many different styles displayed with excellent results. |

The Explorers Wife
As I sit on the stool on my porch,
And wonder why they sent him away,
As the sun rises and sets,
And as the tide comes and goes.
It is he that set off to explore Van
Diemen's land,
And never returned since.
It’s been two years since he was gone,
Never a letter or note,
For it is hard to nurse a child on my
own.
And so I shall wait till he comes
riding over the hill and past the trees which he finds
familiar, he will come down to kiss my cheek,
I shall have my ‘happily ever after’.

Fury
Fury is red, red like fire,
I see a new place,
I hear Captain Cook chatting to his
crew,
I smell the crops growing in NSW,
I touch the old, dirty wood in the
dusty ship,
I taste the fresh meat from the white
rabbits.

'I
am' Poem I am
artistic and smart,
I wonder why we can’t breathe space air,
I hear the soft sound of wind chimes,
I see the light of an angel,
I want the world of imagination.
I am artistic and smart,
I pretend I am a warrior,
I feel the heat of the sun,
I touch the solid earth,
I worry about the end of the world,
I cry about the hatred inside a human.
I am artistic and smart,
I understand the stories that are told,
I say amen to God,
I dream of world peace,
I try my hardest at work,
I hope that war will end,
I am artistic and smart.

Clinking Chains
Fright is grey with fear.
I see the restless convicts.
I hear the clinking chains.
I smell the disgusting stench in the
air.
I touch the knife on the end of my
rifle and the tip of the trigger
I taste the salty air.

Level 4 Projects |
|
All Level 4 children were required to
complete a series of activities as part of their topic
projects this term. They needed to analyse, evaluate and
create aspects related to their subject area. The areas
were: 'Indigenous Australians,' 'Convicts' and
'Explorers'. Children also created collages, magazines,
newspapers, wall paintings, dances. artefacts,
slideshows and models. Here are some examples, with many
more to follow. |
